Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA)
Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) is a specialized form of scalp acupuncture that was developed in the early 1970s by the Japanese physician Toshikatsu Yamamoto. Unlike classical Chinese body acupuncture, YNSA primarily treats precisely defined points and zones on the scalp. The method is considered a so-called microsystem, as it is believed that the entire body is reflected in this small area - in this case, the scalp.
How does YNSA scalp acupuncture work?
The treatment is based on the assumption that specific areas of the scalp correspond to individual regions or functions of the body. By inserting fine acupuncture needles at these points, pain is meant to be relieved, movement patterns improved, and neurological functions supported.
A distinctive feature of YNSA is neck and abdominal wall diagnostics. In this process, the therapist palpates specific areas on the neck or abdomen. Points that are sensitive to pressure indicate which acupuncture points should be treated. During the treatment, palpation is often repeated to check whether the pressure sensitivity has changed.
Course of a treatment
A typical treatment proceeds in several steps:

Medical history: Recording symptoms and medical history.

Diagnostics: Examination of the neck or abdominal zones as well as, if applicable, mobility and pain points.

Needling: Very fine single-use needles are inserted into selected areas of the scalp

Retention time: The needles typically remain in place for 20 to 40 minutes.
Many patients report a change in their symptoms already during treatment, particularly with acute pain. Chronic conditions usually require several sessions.
